Sketching has been one of the most valuable tools in my architectural development. Beyond simply recording what I see, drawing allows me to study proportion, composition, light, and detail while strengthening my ability to communicate ideas by hand. This collection documents my ongoing effort to improve as both an architect and an artist through consistent practice, observation, and study.
The Allison Ramsey Sketches represent a disciplined exercise in architectural sketching. Using elevations from Allison Ramsey Architects, I set a strict 30-minute time limit for each drawing to simulate the quick analytical sketches often used during the design process. Completed over several months at a pace of a few sketches each week, these studies allowed me to track my progress, refine my drafting techniques, and develop greater confidence in accurately capturing architectural form within a limited amount of time.
The Inspired Sketches and Drawing Academy studies explore artistic growth from different perspectives. The Inspired Sketches are drawn from both digital photographs and direct observation, using a variety of media and techniques while studying the work of other artists. By analyzing and recreating their approaches, I gain insight into composition, rendering, and mark-making that can inform my own work. The Drawing Academy studies come from an ongoing classical drawing course focused on constructive geometry and foundational draftsmanship. Through these exercises, I continue to develop a stronger understanding of form, perspective, and the underlying principles that support both fine art and architectural representation.
